Ringing in his 22nd season as conductor of the San Francisco Symphony, visionary Michael Tilson Thomas joined acclaimed opera singers Renée Fleming and Susan Graham in hosting the Opening Night Gala on Wednesday, September 7. Bay Area notables—including Vanessa Getty, Marissa Mayer, Stephanie Marver, Sabrina Buell and Dede Wilsey—gathered at Davies Symphony Hall for a mesmerizing evening with surroundings inspired by Art Nouveau Revival, featuring metallic and mineral elements amongst verdant ferns, moss and orchids dreamed up by Blueprint Studios. The 105th opening kicked off with a cocktail reception followed by a tented Patron’s dinner and eight-part concert conducted by Thomas, which paid special tribute to composer Steve Reich’s 80th birthday with a performance of Reich’s Three Movements. Attendees capped off the evening with an opulent after party—co-chaired by Cate McDonough, Kuntal Goradia, and Kris E. Kolassa—toasting to what is sure to be a memorable season ahead.
