MatchesFashion.com + Alexis Traina Book Release Party
On September 28, Tom Chapman, founder of MatchesFashion.com, hosted a lively party at Gott’s Roadside eatery at the Ferry Plaza in San Francisco in honor of Alexis Swanson Traina’s first book, To Napa With Love (Abrams Books, $25). The Swanson clan turned up, including parents Elizabeth and Clarke, and sisters, Claiborne Swanson Frank and Veronica Swanson Beard. Also dashing about: Johnny and Delphina Traina.
Chapman, in town for a MatchesFashion.com trunk show, recounted to Denise Hale that, before he left London for California, Alexis sent him an advance copy of her book. “ I read it cover-to-cover on the plane. I’ve never been to Napa Valley, but thanks to Alexis, I’m going up there tomorrow,” he said. “Allison Spear secured me a last-minute reservation at The French Laundry, and I’m planning to visit Quintessa and other top wineries. Alexis is my personal guide.”
Alexis explained that with her book, which she penned in just three months, she hoped to “inspire everyone to be creative, to be adventurous, to discover the joys of Napa Valley.” She added, “All my friends—like Thomas Keller, Howard Backen, my sisters, of course, plus Kate and Andy Spade—are on the pages.”
Making a surprise appearance at the fete was best-selling novelist and author of more than180 books, Danielle Steel (formerly married to John Traina, Alexis’s father-in-law). Steel, who splits her time between San Francisco and Paris, was in town for her daughter Zara’s birthday. “I love Alexis’s book,” said Steel. “It’s the perfect guide, full of fun and laughter and good times.”
Guests—all of whom received a signed copy of To Napa With Love—sipped hand-spun vanilla shakes and enjoyed blue-cheese burgers and Ahi poké tacos. Attendees also included Katie and Todd Traina, Maria Manetti Shrem, Heather Pegg Ive, Maxx Traina, Allison Spear, Roman and Jenny Coppola, Sloan Barnett, Max Boyer Glenn, and Marissa Mayer and Zachary Bogue, who were surrounded by even more tech-titan friends.
