Laura Owens + CCA Dinner Party
San Francisco’s burgeoning art scene is buzzing with new spectacles, from SFMOMA‘s inaugural Art Bash and reopening this May to the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera debut this past spring and the Gagosian Gallery‘s forthcoming S.F. opening. But these aren’t the only happenings triggering the Bay Area art world. Last Thursday, April 28, renowned contemporary abstract painter Laura Owens kicked off her solo show at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts with an honorary dinner celebrating her highly anticipated exhibition, Ten Paintings, which features an immersive installation of silkscreened, flocked, painted and hand-printed wallpaper covering every wall of the main gallery. Nearly 100 guests joined hosts Komal Shah and Gaurav Garg at their residence to toast the debut, including esteemed curators Anthony Huberman, Gary Garrels, Susan Krane, Jason Linetzky and Allison Gaas. President of CCA Steve Beal closed out the evening with a special thank you and toast to the L.A.-based artist, whose works will be on view through July 23.
