From its rich museum culture to tech start-ups and interior design havens, San Francisco has attracted a unique and burgeoning hub of major art and design-world players. And nowhere is this better illustrated than the city’s annual FOG Art + Design Fair, which has quickly placed the City by the Bay on the art-world map since its inception in 2011. As tastemakers, art patrons and design lovers descended upon Fort Mason Center Festival Pavilion to kick off this year’s multi-day event with a preview gala, they were greeted with an enormous installation of 200,000 roses in the form of vibrant rug patterns—dreamed up by none other than event-planning whiz Stanlee R. Gatti. More than 2,000 guests—including Tatiana Sorokko, designer Yves Béhar and his wife, art advisor Sabrina Buell, and Vanessa Getty—browsed the vast assortment of furniture, fine art and design objects while genre-defying costume designer Machine Dazzle sewed costumes in real time in the Curran’s theater. Not only does FOG enhance the dialogue between the art and design worlds with five days of events, talks and seminars, but it also gives back directly to the arts: All the proceeds from the gala went toward the San Francisco Museum Of Modern Art‘s exhibitions and education programs.
