The San Francisco Opera Guild and Saks Fifth Avenue hosted a lavish spring fundraiser, Fashion Forward: An Evening with Erdem, on Wednesday, March 25 at Pier 27, the new San Francisco Cruise Terminal. The event benefiting opera educational programs marked British designer Erdem Moralioglu’s first Bay Area show, and he brought along his fall 2015 collection, previously shown only once during London’s fashion week. Co-chaired by Claire Fluhr and Anne Marie Massocca under the leadership of new San Francisco Opera Guild President Charlot Malin, the event drew a host of opera supporters who sat for a a sleek, minimalist presentation of the designer’s 41 looks often crafted from rich jacquards that included party frocks and floor length fil coupe creations. In San Francisco, Moralioglu’s set included black curtains and lacquered panels rather than the more-is-more set built for the London show, but the designs were the focal point here, and they were beautiful. The evening also included a live auction with lots that included a trip to London’s fashion week, a dinner for 10 created by Chef Michael Tusk of Quince that will take place in Mary and Bill Poland‘s Marin house, and tickets to this fall’s Opera Ball.
