Berkeley Art Museum + Pacific Film Archive Opening
The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive inaugurated its new building, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, on January 28. The night opened with a grand gala, dubbed Portal, where guests such as Norah Stone, Sarah Thornton, and Nice Collective’s Ian Hannula and Joe Haller admired both the museum’s architecture and its premiere exhibition, Architecture of Life, featuring over 200 works of art, architectural drawings and models from the last 2,000 years. The 83,000-square-foot space is truly a work of art within itself, featuring fresh and imaginative design including a state-of-the-art theater. After patrons got an up-close look at the spectacular design, a multi-course dinner was served—with a menu created by Alice Waters of acclaimed Berkeley eatery Chez Panisse and prepared by chef Daniel Capra of Paula LeDuc Fine Catering—fueling the attendees for the House after-party that evening. The gala benefited BAMPFA’s art, film and education programs and kicked off four days of festivities leading to the museum’s public opening on January 31.
