For her new Lovebirds home and clothing collection, Bay Area designer Erica Tanov was inspired by an unexpected item: an antique kimono. “I used a portion of the stunning embroidery to create a print that reflected the beauty of the birds and peonies,” says Tanov, who owns two boutiques in Berkeley and Larkspur. “I am endlessly collecting and finding inspiration in antique textiles as well seeking beauty in the more subtle wonders of nature that surround us, which are easily missed if we don’t pay attention. This is why the collection is so special to me. It’s the perfect union of history, nature, and beauty.”

The painterly-like pattern, initially launched by Tanov as a clothing collection a few years ago, is replete with tablecloths, cotton quilts, napkins, shower curtains, cotton quilts, duvet covers, and pillowcases, and also includes a cotton poplin tunic top, a silk chiffon dress, and blouse. “I love how timeless the Lovebirds print is, which is why I have brought it back to celebrate my company’s 25th anniversary,” she adds. “It’s a feel-good print with a blend of femininity, nature, warmth, and nostalgia without being too precious. The hand-stitched cotton quilts remain my favorite in this pattern. What better way is there to wake up in the morning than being wrapped up in something so soft, dreamy, and comforting?”
