“I include myself as the ordinary guy, who’s a bit clueless when it comes to grooming,” said actor and author Rob Lowe explaining the idea behind his new men’s skincare line, Profile, on Friday, October 2, at Nordstrom inside midtown Los Angeles’ The Grove. The 51-year-old who is currently staring in the new TV comedy series, The Grinder, notes that his skin benefited from years spent prepping for parts with hair and makeup teams. “I was fortunate that as part of my job, people did it for me, my whole life, and I think you see the results now.” The line has been a labor of love for Lowe, who spent six years developing the five-piece collection that includes a non-toxic cleanser, eye and face serums, moisturizer, and a shave gel. “I get asked about my grooming regime in every interview,” said Lowe. “Whether it’s for a movie, a TV show, or a book.” The Santa Barbara-based actor who grew up in Ohio and Malibu says a constant stream of the same sorts of questions about what products he used played a role in inspiring the line. “Really, the people started the conversation, and now we’re going to have it,” he added. In addition to the basics launching this fall, Lowe will add a cologne next spring, and he hinted that hair products—so useful in establishing each character he’s played over the years—may also be a future addition to the line.

The Profile age-combating serum, eye rescue serum, and anti-gravity moisturizer are sure to draw attention, but Lowe notes that every guy should put together a grooming regimen with a stash of standby products. “It’s never too early and it’s never too late [to start a routine], but you’ve got to do the bare minimum,” he said. “That’s what this line is designed to cover. It’s a sophisticated, researched, starter kit for men. There’s nothing in it that you don’t need.”
