Ahead of her upcoming Coachella performances, Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li was filmed in Los Angeles by the creative team at Gucci for the Italian fashion house’s spring 2015 digital short staring its Lady Web bag—and also Li and her piano. In the video, Li sings “Just Like a Dream” from her 2014 album, I Never Learn, and the short also depicts her songwriting process inspired by her travels, albums found in record shops, and glimpses of the natural world around her. Li drives along palm-lined avenues in Beverly Hills, leafs through used books, and watches the sun set beyond the Santa Monica mountains before sitting down to compose lyrics of her own.

All the while, Li carries a suede Lady Web as well as other versions of the small shoulder bag, including one made of brown hand-stained leather that mimics the look of vintage tooled leather. The materials are reminiscent of those used for purses that Joni Mitchell’s ladies of the canyon might have carried. The setting and subjects seem apt given the parallels between Li’s heartrending third album and Mitchell’s famed Blue. Li’s song and Gucci’s roving camera paint a beautifully hazy picture of sorrow and recollection explored. And the pairing between the Italian fashion house and the singer works as seamlessly as Li’s collaboration with David Lynch.
