Phillip Lim’s sporty separates took a darker turn during his fall 2015 3.1 Phillip Lim presentation held in New York at Skylight Clarkson SQ. The designer, who spent a few years honing his craft in Los Angeles before launching his eponymously named label in Manhattan, sent plaid shirts and knit sweaters slashed with bits of black suede and leather down the runway, and each piece had a cinched belt built into the design. In all, the collection had a very punk edge and the moody, rebellious look of the clothes inspired makeup artist Francelle Daly for NARS Cosmetics to create a grittier look for each model. “Utilitarian punk is the direction this season,” she said. “Natural radiant skin mixed with a punk-inspired oxblood red shade on the lips for a bold statement.” Indeed, the bare faces and lush dark lips transformed the toughest punks into pretty girls with attitude to spare.
