Wear LACMA Spring/Summer 2017 Reception
Art and fashion notables gathered to toast the Wear LACMA Spring/Summer 2017 Collection at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art store on June 7. Hosted by LACMA Director’s Circle co-chairs Quinn Ezralow, Cece Feiler, and luxury brand consultant Katherine Ross, the soiree treated guests to a preview of new designs by Kendall Conrad, Outerknown, and Lena Wald.
Launched in 2012, the Director’s Circle initiative features unique apparel, jewelry and accessory pieces created by L.A. designers and inspired by the museum’s diverse collection. “We love partnering with Los Angeles based-designers for their unique perspectives and diverse backgrounds. The way these designers have been inspired by the museum’s collection allows us to look closer at these works and appreciate them in a different way,” explained Ross.
An ancient handled weight from Afghanistan depicting primitive scorpions around a palm tree prompted Kendall Conrad’s intriguing line of leather goods and jewelry. “This artwork first caught my eye because it was in the shape of a bag, but the carved image is what I fell in love with.”
For jewelry designer Lena Wald, the muses were Ludwig Kirchner’s Untitled print and Two Nudes in a Room. “I love the idea of painting/enameling the jewelry for this Wear LACMA collection in the rich colors reminiscent of these works,” she said.
Outerknown, founded by world-champion surfer Kelly Slater and designer John Moore, is a coastal-minded clothing brand focusing on sustainability and protecting natural resources. They designed men’s T-shirts and a pant based on Syrian tile from 1600, a 19th century botanical print, and a Hawaiian Islands textile.
Among the attendees were designers Brian Wolk, Claude Morais and Johnson Hartig, alongside Thelma Golden, Willow Bay, Dennis Miller, Fran Drescher, and Nikolai Haas.
All items are being sold at the LACMA Store and online with proceeds benefitting the museum.
