The Hollywood Bowl Opening Night
For Angelenos, a crescendo of sound from a notable music group marks the start of the summer calendar at The Hollywood Bowl, and this year, for the amphitheater’s 96th anniversary, the tradition was no different. On Saturday, June 17, the signal came from The Moody Blues, who performed their 1967 album Days of Future Passed, among other works, with help from the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, led by Principal Conductor Thomas Wilkins. Guests were also treated to dinner from The Lucques Group that featured a healthy spread—perhaps a nod to the ongoing wellbeing initiative of the event sponsor, Kaiser Permanente. Amidst the evening’s crowd were such notables as Quentin Tarantino, Kathryn Barger, Janice Hahn, Hilda Solis, David Ryu, Jay Rasulo, Gail Samuel and Chad Smith, who were not only on hand to revel in the arts, but to help give back to the community. Before the fete came to an end, $1.5 million was raised to benefit the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s education and community programs.
