When a top Hollywood producer/writer/director like David O. Russell joins creative forces with Miuccia Prada—the visionary behind Italian fashion house Prada and secondary line, Miu Miu—for a short film, two key elements are almost guaranteed: a star-studded cast and stellar head-to-toe ensembles. On Tuesday, November 15, the powerhouse duo delivered just that with the exclusive premier of their short film, Past Forward, hosted by Prada, at the newly minted Hauser Wirth & Schimmel gallery in Downtown Los Angeles. Drawing industry luminaries from near and far, the private screening’s guest list read like a who’s who of Hollywood much like the film’s casting credits, starring Allison Williams, Freida Pinto, John Krasinski, Paula Patton, Connie Britton, Kuoth Wiel, Connie Britton and Sacha Baron Cohen. Leading ladies Williams, Pinto, Wiel, Walls and Britton turned heads on the red carpet in elegant, playful silhouettes from the brand, along with guests and fellow actors Jamie Bell, Zoey Deutch, Demi Moore, Olivia Munn and Kate Mara. Designed for display on various platforms including gallery installations, social media and online distribution, the short film—which was also incorporated into the set of Prada’s Spring/Summer 2017 fashion presentation in September—is as artful as it is stylish. Together with Prada, O. Russell (whose credits include American Hustle, The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook) brings his “cinema poem” to life with a dreamy, surrealistic silent picture that layers a collage of characters, genres and scenarios into one, high-fashion experience that leaves the viewer entranced from start to finish.
