Celebrating the connection between food, music and Champagne, the storied house of Krug brought its signature “Krug Journey” dinner series to California on Thursday, January 18.

Cohosted with fashion designer Naeem Khan—whose elite fan club includes Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton—the invite-only event welcomed Cassandra Grey, Jordana Brewster, Erin and Sara Foster, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jessica and David Oyelowo, Samantha Ronson, Paula Patton, and other distinguished guests to the sprawling Malibu home of Hope and Robert Smith.

Krug Journey Malibu—the series’ tenth installment—paired exquisite Krug Champagnes with a multi-course meal and musical selections, performed live by Leslie Odom Jr., of Hamilton fame.

“I tried to match the tone and feel of my selections to the spirit of the wine,” Odom Jr. later said, reflecting on his the musical couplings for the concept, which included a jazzy rendition of the Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly” and a trio of songs from the Broadway musical that earned the actor and singer international acclaim. “In the same way that you have solos and symphonies, you have wines like Krug Clos du Mesnil—a single-grape, single-year expressing itself—and Krug Grande Cuvée—an orchestra of 120-plus wines coming together to create something amazing.”

Beloved Los Angeles chef Ludo Lefebvre prepared a decadent dinner to compliment the melodies and bubbly, while New York-based chef and Cronut-mastermind Dominique Ansel’s custom desserts offered a sweet note with which to end the night.
