If more proof was needed that Los Angeles has established itself as a mecca for art, look no further than the Institute of Contemporary Art Los Angeles. On Saturday, May 20, the museum drew nearly 300 guests, including artists, cultural leaders, collectors and patrons, to honor artist Carrie Mae Weems at the organization’s inaugural gala “bruncheon” in Downtown L.A. The event also helped the ICA LA reach 90 percent of its $5 million campaign goal. In addition to remarks from the institute’s Board of Directors President Laura Donnelley, Executive Director Elsa Longhauser, The Museum of Modern Art New York’s Ann Temkin, and a video tribute by Nikita Gale, the gathering also treated guests to a preview of the soon-to-be-completed exhibition space, which is slated to open its doors this September with Martin Ramirez: His Life in Pictures, Another Interpretation, among other works.
