Fashion, art and film collided Saturday evening at the Hammer Museum’s 15th Annual Gala in the Garden, with plenty of shimmer, shine and star power to go around. High wattage guests (befitting a fete held alongside an exhibition titled  “Radical Women”,) included Jessica Chastain, Emmy Rossum, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hailey Baldwin, Priyanka Chopra, January Jones and more, who all stepped out to recognize filmmaker Ava DuVernay and New Yorker writer and critic Hilton Als. “Both Ava and Hilton’s profoundly important work shines a light on so many vital and overlooked stories in our world. We’re thrilled to honor them at this year’s gala,” said museum director Annie Philbin. Garnering almost as much attention as the honorees and tributes from writer, producer, and director J.J. Abrams and author Maggie Nelson, were the Academy-Award worthy looks from Bottega Veneta, the Gala’s sponsor for the fifth year running, that most of the evening’s notables donned. Emmy Rossum glittered in a floor-length gunmetal column dress from event co-chair, (alongside Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto as well as Jenni, Maggie and Saree Kayne) and Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier’s Fall/Winter 17 collection, Marisa Tomei opted for an equally stunning bronze pleated dress with antique-gold corseted fishtail from the same assortment, while a blue, embellished denim-print midi dress from the brand’s Cruise 2018 assortment adorned January Jones. Amidst the glamour, guests were treated to a menu of goat cheese and fig salad and roast chicken by Lucques Chef Suzanne Goin, complete with tequila pairing. The evening was capped off with a performance by L.A.-based and Bottega Veneta-clad sister trio Haim, and a total of $2.4 million raised to support landmark exhibitions, provocative public programs and deeply rooted projects with young and emerging L.A. artists. “Both Ava and Hilton’s profoundly important work shines a light on so many vital and overlooked stories in our world. We’re thrilled to honor them at this year’s gala.”
