On Saturday, October 8, the Hammer Museum welcomed nearly 600 guests—including artists, patrons and luminaries from the entertainment and fashion worlds—to commemorate the 14th annual Gala in the Garden, the city’s highly anticipated art-world event, which celebrates artists and creative expression in Los Angeles. As a nod to Bottega Veneta‘s four-year partnership with the museum for the annual bash, art patrons including Laura Dern, Minnie Driver, Isabel Lucas, Amanda Peet and Emma Roberts turned up in the Italian house’s stunning designs. The enchanted evening commenced with cocktail hour on the third-floor terrace, followed by a seated dinner in the outdoor courtyard, where attendees like Alessandra Ambrosio, Selma Blair, Elizabeth Chambers and January Jones enjoyed a meal prepared by acclaimed chef Suzanne Goin (A.O.C., Lucques). To commemorate gala honorees, artist Laurie Anderson and filmmaker Todd Haynes, a number of notable names took to the stage to acknowledge their many accomplishments, including museum director Ann Philbin, Emmy-winning actor Sarah Paulson and author Karl Ove Knausgård. Throughout the evening, guests along with event co-chairs Jodie Foster, Alexandra Hedison, Robert Soros, and Bottega Veneta Creative Director Tomas Maier, lent their ears to the creative pair; Haynes spoke of his culture-rich childhood in Los Angeles that led to his career in filmmaking, while Anderson opted for a less traditional speech and, instead, performed a moving instrumental and vocal political piece. The successful affair—which raised more than $2 million to support The Hammer’s nationally acclaimed exhibitions and public programs—concluded with a set by Rufus Wainwright underneath the courtyard’s glowing lantern installation.
