Gustavo Dudamel + L.A. Phil Opening Night Gala
Kicking off the 2017/2018 season with a bang, the Los Angeles Philharmonic celebrated its opening night on Tuesday, September 26, with a Mozart-themed program conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Patrons including Rosanna Arquette, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Saffron Burrows and Mayor Eric Garcetti gathered at the storied Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles for an evening of music featuring pieces from the composer’s childhood through early adulthood. World-renowned pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Yuja Wang capped off the affair with a lively rendition of Milhaud’s Scaramouche: III “Brasileira,” before guests made their way to Grand Avenue for an urban-jungle themed gala, complete with a menu by chef Joachim Splichal, a rousing performance by the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, and a dance floor under the stars. All proceeds from the gala will benefit the Los Angeles Philharmonic, now in its 99th season, and its educational and community programs.
