Ermenegildo Zegna + The L.A. Dance Project
“Los Angeles is a special city to me, it’s a place where I feel energized,” said Alessandro Sartori of the landing spot for the Ermenegildo Zegna Couture Collection’s latest debut, XXX, on Tuesday, December 5.
The creative director welcomed guests like Miles Teller, James Marsden, Miguel and Garrett Hedlund among others to the architecturally renowned, John Lautner-designed Sheats-Goldstein residence, a location selected, Sartori explained, as it embodies his love for L.A., specifically the “view of bright lights, a beautiful landscape, and modernity.” All of which were not lost on Marsden: “This Lautner house is one of my favorite houses in L.A.,” he said. “In 23 years, I’ve actually never been in it. My head is pointed at the ceiling looking around and people keep bringing it back down. It’s a pretty amazing place.”
Nearby, Teller also roamed the grounds before noting, “I’m running into a lot of people I know. It’s a nice mix of fashion, sports, and music people. I just ran into Blake Griffin.” Regarding his monochromatic black XXX attire, he said, “Fashion helps us express ourselves and feel confident. I’m proud to wear Zegna.”
The feeling was mutual for newly wed Los Angeles Galaxy player Robbie Rogers. “I’ve fallen in love with Zegna a few different times, but the most recent time was for my wedding. They dressed me in Zegna Couture and it was really beautiful. They were so amazing with me and their fabrics are so beautiful.”
Shortly after eight o’clock, the crowd—which grew to include Natalie Portman, Benjamin Millepied, Shaun Ross, Wiz Khalifa, and Lucky Blue Smith—moved to the home’s downstairs nightclub for the full debut of the line, showcased in a series of performances by Millepied’s XXX-clad L.A. Dance Project. Sartori noted earlier, “This collection is a lot of what Benjamin’s work is, inside. The XXX collection is inspired by the movement, the juxtaposition of the craft and specific constructions. Everything is very light and very modern in a construction without forgetting the quality. This aesthetic is the center of the collection and what we’re showcasing tonight.”
After receiving a standing ovation by Khalifa, the scene broke out into a dance party fueled by early-aughts tracks including Missy Elliott’s “Work It.”
