In honor of his non-profit, the Team Griffin Foundation, L.A. Clipper Blake Griffin partnered with Ermenegildo Zegna to host a charitable fete on Thursday, September 14—the duo’s second collaborative event.
Holding court at the Italian menswear label’s Rodeo Drive outpost, Griffin welcomed a coterie of fashion fans like Alan Tudyk, Robbie Rogers and Adam Rodriguez, who peppered the store’s third floor and patio dressed in Zegna. The power forward’s teammates Danilo Gallinari and DeAndre Jordan towered among the crowd.
Suited in Ermenegildo Zegna Made to Measure, Griffin called the evening a result of an “organic” friendship that has evolved over the years. “Most NBA players don’t know you have to have suits for a lot of different events as a rookie,” he recalled. “I came in here, bought a suit, loved it and just continued the relationship with them.”
Six years later, the two powerhouses are giving back together. “Tonight’s proceeds will go to Team Griffin. I really put an interest in young men and women. I want to give them the tools that someone gave me when I was a kid, whether it’s sports or academics.”
When it comes to style, one factor that the 6-foot-10-inch ballplayer always takes into consideration is comfort. But given his stature, it’s not in the way one might think. “It’s just the things that I like,” he says. “Not necessarily physical comfort, but just looking in the mirror and knowing that’s what I like.”
But his look wasn’t always so polished. “Coming from Oklahoma, it’s a little different,” he says. “Style-wise, just being exposed to more cultures, different styles and people, [moving to Los Angeles] has definitely influenced me and opened my eyes to being open to more looks.”
And a robust closet calls for a selection of accessories to match. “I have well over 100 pairs of shoes,” he laughs.
