On Friday, November 2, a dinner for 60 was held at the home of Stacey and Henry Winkler, hosted by their daughter, Zoe Winkler, The Ideateur’s Elsa Collins and crossborder expert Yolanda Selene Walther-Meade. The Dia de Muertos-themed event’s focus was This Is About Humanity, a campaign supporting separated and recently reunited families.

Guests, including actor Minka Kelly, assembled on the front lawn, set with a colorful ofrenda and festive tablescapes featuring Catrina figures, marigolds and sugar skulls. With everyone in good spirits, thanks in part to lively music provided by Grammy-nominated guitar virtuoso David Maldonado, Zoe and Walther-Meade welcomed guests and introduced the evening’s chefs—Food Network chef Marcela Valladolid, Ray Garcia of Broken Spanish and Bricia Lopez from La Guelaguetza.

While partygoers enjoyed creative Mexican dishes paired with Clase Azul tequilas, Walther-Meade led remarks about the work of the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, one of the night’s beneficiaries, and two women shared personal stories of being separated from family members at the United States-Mexico border. By the end of the evening, the hosts happily announced that $76,000 had been raised.
