Hot restaurants tend to fluctuate like hemlines and hit songs, but the eternal allure of M (formerly known as Michael Chow) and his eponymous eatery, Mr Chow in Beverly Hills is a tribute to the man who has been at the epicenter of the art, music and entertainment worlds for decades. It’s only natural the brightest stars turned out to mark his golden anniversary on Friday, February 16.

Legendary names such as Al Pacino, Angelica Houston, Jerry Hall, Mickey Rourke and Chris Rock mingled with art world stars Alex Isreal, Aaron Young, Jeffrey Deitch, and entertainment icons Mitch Glazer, Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin, and Stevie Wonder at M’s new Vernon artist studio.

M and his children, Asia, China and Maximilian, pulled out all the stops at the party, which coincided with Chinese New Year. DJ Cash kept fashionable types like Greg Chait, Garance Doré, Heidi Klum and Misha Nonoo grooving during a surprise traditional dragon dance.

It was an apt scene for the man who opened his first restaurant on Valentine’s Day, 1968, in Knightsbridge, London with the idea of serving authentic Beijing cuisine with elegant European service. Now with locations around the world, it seems the party is far from over.
