Barneys New York Launches thedropLA @barneys
“I would have been a fool to say no,” Jordyn Woods said of her collaboration with Barneys New York—a dégradé patent leather ankle boot—as part of the department store’s thedropLA@barneys event on Saturday, June 2, and Sunday, June 3, in Beverly Hills.
With 5.4 million Instagram followers and counting, Woods was one of the main draws to the weekend affair, which included singer Justine Skye (who had a shoe collaboration of her own), and rising model Salem Mitchell.
In partnership with Highsnobiety and following a New York City launch last October, @thedropLA took over the department store’s six-story Beverly Hills flagship, with a jam-packed two-day schedule boasting a designer roller rink, pizza parlor via Fila and a surprise performance by Wu-Tang Clan. The event also featured more than 20 exclusive capsule collections, plus installations, interactive activities and a slew of designer appearances including Moschino’s Jeremy Scott.
“I’m always happy to get to actually meet the fans,” said Scott ahead of his upcoming Spring/Summer ’19 menswear and Resort ’19 womenswear show the following week in Los Angeles. “That’s the best part of my job, honestly. It’s why I do my work, to touch people’s lives. There’s nothing more thrilling than that.”
Teenage boys in head-to-toe designer streetwear wandered around shopping, looking for a chance to meet one of their idols, among them Jerry Lorenzo of Fear of God, Guillermo Andrade of 424, Heron Preston and John Elliott.
“I remember when we first started selling at Barneys,” said Elliott. “It was kind of like a validation for a young designer. For an independent designer to even have [their] stuff presented here, to be on the floor at Barneys—it’s an honor.”
